Futher Research for Major Project
in this post I would like to describe research and process of my major project which is a creating fashion book for a teenage girls.
To do a perfect book I have to consider many aspects before my drawings. Because a few small edits can significantly change my book:
- create characters and dressing them - what clothes I want to my character wear in every season of the year.
- layout : single page spread, double page spread, vignette illustrations ( vignette illustrations)
- illustration style ( flat, comic style) I always used to love cartoons and to be hones I still do. For example ,The Powepuff Girls' I used to love as a kid. I started to actually do a bit of research and learn about Craig McCracken, the artist who create them.
- how many illustrations I will include on one page (1to 5 pictures)
- age group - teenage girls ( between 11-17 years)
- proportions of body
- how I will design the cover of my book
- colour palette
- choose various of digital brushes
- image and colours of my background
- how to put character in the space I have chosen every character will be outside not indoor to show a seasons.
i will read on internet what to avoid In the illustrations book for children to make as few errors as possible.
What is the flat style illustration?
Why it is so popular?
Digital art is based on the use of a computer to produce drawings by the use of many tiny pixels. The results of such work would be difficult to achieve in traditional art., where the artist needs to worry about materials, like canvas, paint, or about space and chemical odours.
In addition, there are many tools helping the atrist, such as....., which makes it possible for him to create more than he would in traditional style. An illustrator can achieve effects of watercolour, oil paint, air brush but also add new effects, combine media or do things that need time, like repeating objects in the picture and he does not need to worry about mistakes, because they can be removed quickly. The flat design, which has become popular partly because modern day technology allows for all the colours to be shown on different size monitors, allows for the illustration to relate to the user and create a connection.
One of the main characteristics of flat design is the use of bright colours, which can be applied in the form of vibrant, monotone paletts, that mix different hues and tone. On the other hand, pops of contrasting colour or colour blocking may be used to enrich simple lines of the design. Flat design also allows for textures to be combined with bold colours to reach subtle effects or expressive forms. Flat design is simple and focuses on the object. It is minimalist in nature, as it does not resemble or try to recreate the real-life objects or people. Some of the tools or techniques that apply to flat design are ‘long shadows’; bright and bold colours or hues, as well as simple and easy to read texts.
Why have I chosen it?
This style is more achievable to do in a short period of time.

Proces of my major project
step 1 - plan of my book - traditional sketch

step 2 - digital sketch
I love working digitally and in traditional method but if I need to choose a one of them I have to choose digital art because it allows me to explore lots of different options, enormous different techniques, without using costly paints such as paper, mediums: watercolour gouache, oils, markers, acrylic, colourful pencils e.t.c it allows me to make mistakes and evaluate those mistakes and do them indefinitely. often it is difficult to decide when to stop make changes in your image when I have endlessly opportunities.
this books helped me to learn different techniques in Procreate
step 3 - learning proportions of my creations
I found a references in a few my own books and I have borrowed some from library and from friend
The title of this blog post is research, but there is a lack of sources and references here that back up your work. Please also remember that research is not adding a picture of books and saying you have looked at this. Please discuss the specific techniques you have learned and show examples of how you have applied these to your own work.
