FIRST THOUGHTS - Project Brief

Project Themes:

  1. Purple Haze.  Use the colour purple as your theme, consider what it represents and how it can be incorporated into your art or design project.
  2. Earthly Delights.  Interpret this title as you please to represent, incorporate or express the nature of earthly delights in your art and design project.
  3. Expressionism. Look deeply into expressionism and incorporate this style into your art and design project.

Questions:

1) Which theme are you most drawn to and why?

2) How do you think you can apply this theme to work in your own subject area?

3) What pops into you head first when considering this project?

4) Does it make you think of any particular artists and/or designers?I am the most drawn to a second theme which is

Earthly Delights.  Interpret this title as you please to represent, incorporate or express the nature of earthly delights in your art and design project.

My interpretation of Earthly Delights is all the big and small pleasures that we come across daily and that we often overlook, especially when our negative thoughts draw us into the dark places of our minds. When we feel down, when we are locked at home, when life seems to be composed of mundane activities, it is difficult to find reasons to smile. Years go by and, as we look back, we can hardly remember happy moments.

In my project I would like to create illustrations for a mindfulness diary that would help people focus on pleasant aspects of their lives and notice beauty in everyday things. The diary will be entitled Earthly Delights and will guide people through six different pleasure sources: food and drinks, nature, family and friends, entertainment, knowledge, recreation. The idea is to illustrate each of the six chapter-pages with a collage of drawings and paintings combined with Procreate Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop images that would be uplifting and fun. :)

My flat design illustrations will be vivid and bold, full of colour and life, reminding the audience that there is much to discover and experience. Each page will follow a similar pattern with grey hand-sketches or drawings in the background and strong, eye-catching design in the middle. Each chapter will also have a title.

The diary’s target demographic will be young people, who might find it hard to see that each day or month can bring something positive, if we learn to notice it. Rather than being divided into months, my diary will be divided into pleasure sections. It is often the case, that the inability to fill each and every day in a diary brings about the thoughts of failure and creates resistance. As we forget to journal every single day of the month, we become disheartened and the project gets put aside. I would like this diary to be a collection of random pleasant experiences that a person has during a year and a place where they can be stored without any pressure or external goal. The finished product would be a great New Year’s Resolution’s supplement, a birthday present or a start of a self-discovery journey

As I see it, this term means pleasures in life in my mind map I took in to account six different aspects of Earthly Delights. First aspect which pops into my mind was food because who doesn’t like delicious food. I am planning to draw pizza, cake, icecream.

Next aspects is traveling. In my opinion visiting new places is exciting and gives joy. Another side of delight is walking in nature. Contact with nature makes us feel better, happier and healthier. Further point I want to consider is family time. Spending time with people you love provides sense of connection. One more thing which delights us is contact with animals. I am big fan of animals especially dogs. They make me smiley. Many people find pleasure in drinking coffee and so do I. the final aspect are books . books transport us to a different world. Where we can piece of happiness.

My idea is to create a illustrations for wellness magazine or website helping people find happiness in life. The Topic of my project is HOW TO BE HAPPY ON OUR EARTH. I haven’t been inspired by particular designer or artist but by a trend in modern illustration. I am going to do flat illustrations which have been very popular among graphic designers for some time.

  1. This post seems a bit directionless - you talk about certain aspects of what you would like to do, but not how this would be in terms of a series of outcomes. Your brainstorm could also identify the different research elements you could look at and is also lacking in any detail! for example, which aspects of family time are important? how are they relevant to your theme? contact with animals? Wild animals? Pets? This post needs much more detail and thought going into it, identify what it is you want to say and the purpose of your project.
