Something New - Artist research - Vivienne Cawson
Vivienne Cawson
Flowers in watercolour
In her career, Vivienne Cawson has worked as a designer of printed carpets, art and design teacher and a professional painter. She is a Leicester educated watercolour artist and she specialises in flowers and portraits. Her work is inspired by colours and shapes of flowers, pieces of fabric, tablecloths and her favourite jugs. She runs workshops and exhibitions all over UK and her watercolours can be bought in the form of accessories, artcards, books, calendars cushions, gift cards, greeting cards, bookmarks, original art, portraits, floral watercolours and prints. Flowers, which are a universal symbol of beauty, are a traditional decorative motive and can be used on many different surfaces and products. Her selection of products is an inspiration for what I would like to achieve in my project for florist shop accessories.
In her works Vivienne Cawson uses natural, fresh, vibrant contemporary colours for her still life and often puts them together with block colour backgrounds. The artist paints natural flowers to show the beaauty of nature. Her beautiful floral designs are transparent and soft and the rich bouquets are delicate and feminine. Using multiple layers of paint, Cawsone creates light but complex flower compositions.
I chosen her as my inspiration because I would like to learn how to paint natural looking flowers. I am, however, worried that I do not have enough skill to be able to achieve it. My primary interest is digital art and I think it would be interesting to see watercolour combined with this modern medium.

I understand you are worried that your skills are not up to Cawson's yet, but you have to give yourself time to develop and make space to practise and experiment with your chosen materials.
