WELCOME POST - back to summer term 3

Welcome to the third part of my blog in which I will be telling you all about my assignments. Although the two previous terms were demanding, and the amount of work was overwhelming, I am prepared to face new challenges. I know that only just through systematic work I can manage to complete everything and more. Thanks to being methodical and organized last terms I have developed greatly, which I am proud of. This term I would like to prepare as well as possible for the first year of Graphic Design- Illustration so that the experience is less stressful. Furthermore, the more I learn now, the better my projects will be. As suggested by Sam, I am planning to take sketchbooks everywhere I go so that I can sketch whenever I feel inspired. I am planning to practice drawing as often as possible, in order to learn how to make better projects.

I am also going to learn Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator by myself in case there aren’t enough lessons on this topic during the course. My vocabulary in graphic design, and art in general, needs to expand to make sure my reflections, essays and research are on an academic level.

During the break I spent time watching youtube channels of different illustrators, looking for inspiration. So far my favourite artist is Emilly Schofield For 2 years now I have been following this young student of illustration. Emily is in their second year of Illustration at Manchester University. She has her own YouTube Chanel where she shows what she is creating. Viewers can follow her creative process from start to finish.  Last term she was absent from YouTube because she had so many assignments which is how I have learned how much work is ahead of me. I watch her videos/ films with great pleasure because of her artistic imagination which allows her to create detailed colourful worlds. The range of topics she is interested in is impressive. Emily makes illustrations of animal portraits, people’s faces, fairy tale animated objects, cartoonlike characters, landscapes and collages. Her work is sometimes colourful and sometimes monochromatic.  She mainly uses watercolour, gauche and colourful pencils which she later enhances in Photoshop. She runs her own shop on Etsy and sells her prints. People from all over the world buy her products. I watch her both for pleasure and to see what to expect.

Comments

  1. This students work is a good example of how she tries out different approaches and uses a range of materials to develop her work, something we discussed last term (as you pointed out in your post). You've made some good comments about last term, reflected well on what you did. In particular, remember your feedback on your last assessment - use your blog more smartly! This means creating posts that are better researched, show more 'common sense' about your project and take time to think more deeply about whether what you are posting is helping to develop your project.
