I Hate Art - Angry Dog - Edvard Munch

Image
Angry Dog is a painting by Edvard Munch painted in 1938-43 the painting shows a big black angry dog with the tongue hanging out. The dog is standing outside in the grass and there are birch trees behind it. the dog is looking at the viewer clearly angry. We can only see the front half of its body. This painting ia a story between Edward and his neigbours dog. The painting is carelessly painted as if by a child. I do not like the fact that the brushstrokes are thick,  defined because it makes the painting seem unfinished unflatering without any techniques and skill. The paint is smeared on the canvas which has many visible blank spaces.  For me, the painting should be more realistic and precise with many details. I am not a fan of abstract composition. I do not like the subject of this artwork. In my opinion, the subject matter of a painting should be pleased on the eyes and give joy. Image reference: https://munch.emuseum.com/articles/24317

Artist research - Frank Wagtmans

Image
Frank Wagtmans is a dutch painter who has a passion for portraying South Asian people. I have chosen to research this artist because of his talent for painting Asian cultures for example Japanese Geisha and Indian Brides. His exotic artwork is eye-catching, detailed high contrast painted with rich colours. He paints large portraits on canvas using glossy metallic paint, gems that add shine .... He uses shadow and value to sculpt faces. he applies different techniques and materials, adding pieces of fabric and texture. His paintings have many layers. he uses bright, vivid colours. His creations are based on a photograph. His first step is to make a sketch on the canvas after that he chooses a colour pallet and paints layer-by-layer. Because he paints with acrylic, he has to work quickly using a flat brush.  Image Resources:  https://www.frankwagtmans.com/art https://www.desiblitz.com/content/frank-wagtmans-dutch-painter-indian-brides

Development Exercise: Tell Me A Story!

DAUGHTER OF THE CHINESE KING AND HER PROTECTIVE DRAGON .    Once upon a time, behind six hills and five fields, there lived a King and Queen with their small daughter called Mairag, her name meaning Beautiful and well-bred, her second name was Yulan which means magnolia flower.    One day the girl decided to play in the yard at the front of the Palace, she asked her mother and father to play with her, but they were busy and didn’t have time to play with the girl.    “You have dolls to accompany you”, said Dad.   “I wish my grandparents were here, they never say they do not have time, Maybe I should visit them now” she thought.   Without saying anything Mairag went on her way to see her grandparents. She walked happily through the forest for some time, however the road seemed longer than usual. She walked for what felt like an age, the road seemed like it could go on forever. Finally she tired and sat down under a tree to rest a while.   “Toda...
